UAE Ambassador to Korea Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi emphasized the maturation of Korea-UAE bilateral relations during a two-day workshop, titled “UAE-Republic of Korea strategic dialogue: exploring the prospects of an enhanced partnership.” The event, which began on Oct. 10, was aimed to promote closer bilateral collaboration.

The event featured four distinct panel discussions, each with its unique focus: “UAE-Korea Strategic Partnership: Present Realities and Future Possibilities,” “UAE-Korea Strategic Partnership: A Youth Perspective,” “COP28 and the Imperative of Strengthening UAE-Korea Collaboration in Climate Action” and “A Roadmap for the Future.”

Ambassador Al Nuaimi noted the evolution of the bilateral relationship, which began as a strategic partnership in 2009 and was elevated to a special strategic partnership in 2018. This enhanced partnership now covers a wide range of collaborative areas beyond traditional exchanges.

He highlighted the establishment of several formal platforms and mechanisms designed to facilitate cooperation, including the special strategic dialogue at the level of foreign ministers, 2+2 meetings, high-level consultations on nuclear cooperation, joint economic committee meetings and consular committee meetings.

“During the recent state visit to the UAE in January this year, President

Yoon Suk Yeol and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE president, considered taking our special strategic partnership to its highest possible level,”Al Nuaimi said.

“This demonstrates the ongoing potential for further promotion and expansion of bilateral cooperation, not only within our nations but also jointly in third countries.”

Ambassador Al Nuaimi expressed optimism that the event would provide valuable insights into ways of enhancing the partnership.

“This conference we will gain valuable insights on the ways and means to enhance the partnership between our two countries, building upon our past achievements,” he said.

The ambassador emphasized that the event’s scope extended beyond economic and political exchanges, focusing on the strategic partnership from a youth perspective. Additionally, he emphasized collaboration between the two nations in climate action, aligning with the UAE’s commitment to international climate initiatives and Korea’s priorities at next month’s COP28, to be hosted by the UAE.

Furthermore, Mohammed Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research and Advisory, highlighted three key factors shaping the future of this partnership: diversified bilateral trade channels and promising investment opportunities in both countries’ markets, the promotion of cultural connections, and ongoing coordination between the UAE and Korea in international forums aimed at advancing sustainability in the global economy.
