Heidi Bucher: Spaces are Shells, are Skins

The Art Sonje Center presents Asia’s first-ever retrospective of the groundbreaking Swiss sculptor and performance artist Heidi Bucher. Ranging from spatial installations to drawings, textiles and performative practices, Bucher’s oeuvre advocates for the liberation of the body by critically responding to the conventionally patriarchal structures. The show’s highlights include the “skin,” or the cast of the patriarchal architecture such as the Gentlemen’s Study of her ancestral house, and the psychiatric hospital that once treated a female patient diagnosed with hysteria.
