‘Yi Do’ Seoul Namsan Gukakdang Oct. 6-8

A barrier-free musical, “Yi Do,” will unfold at the Seoul Namsan Gukakdang next month. Set in the early Joseon Dynasty, the musical revolves around King Taejong and his son, Crown Prince Yi Do, who later becomes King Sejong the Great. “Yi Do” takes the liberty of reinterpreting the story of the iconic king’s invention of the Korean writing system, Hangeul. The performance will be accompanied by a set of traditional Korean instruments, including the geomungo, haegeum and daegeum.

‘Hanbat Pungryu’

Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center

The Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center will present a musical celebration to commemorate the city’s hosting of the UCLG Congress, or the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders, in October. “Hanbat Pungryu” will be a chance to enjoy traditional Korean melodies from court music to folk music, including “Sujecheon,” which is performed primarily by wind instruments, and “Jindo Arirang.”
