Beautiful Thursday Season 2022: Flutist Cho Sung-hyun

Flutist Cho Sung-hyun will meet the public with his concert next month at Kumho Art Hall. Following his time at the Karajan Academy, an institution associated with the Berlin Philharmonic, as the first Korean flutist, he has performed on a host of musical stages in Europe with orchestras including the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Gurzenich Orchestra Cologne. Joined by guitarist Park Ji-hyung and harpist Hwang Se-hee, Cho will perform Mozart’s “Violin Sonata No. 21 in E minor K. 304” and Faure’s “Fantaisie for Flute and Piano in E Minor, Op. 79,” among others.

Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6 Lotte Concert Hall

Led by maestro Chung Myungwhun, the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra is scheduled to present the fourth edition of its masterpiece concert series next month. For the upcoming concert, award-winning pianist Park Jae-hong will join the orchestra to perform Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1 in b flat minor, Op. 23” and “Symphony No. 6 in b flat minor ‘Pathique,’ Op. 74” together. The Russian Romantic composer’s music is well known to audiences in Korean for its delicate and melancholic melodies.

Beautiful Thursday Season 2022: Cellist Mun Tae-guk

Cellist Mun Tae-guk took the classical musical scene by storm when he became the first Asian musician to nab the Pablo Casals International Award in 2014. Since then, he has won a number other prizes, including the 2016 Janos Starker Foundation Award. Mun also made an album debut in 2019 with “Songs of the Cello: Homage to Pablo Casals.” For his upcoming concert, he will perform Beethoven’s “Sonatas for Cello and Piano No. 5 in D Major, Op. 102/2,” Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” and more.
