Hana Financial Group has launched an internship program that aims at promoting the mutual growth of young jobseekers and social enterprises.

According to the group, the Hana Power On Innovative Firm internship aims at building a bridge between innovative enterprises and young jobseekers. The program is expected to support the growth of enterprises that had problems with hiring. The program aims at creating jobs for young designers, disabled people or women who had their careers interrupted.

Hana has been operating its internship program since 2018 to nurture the ecosystem of the social economy and create jobs. The bank plans to expand the program from this year on so that more young people can get the jobs they want.

Those selected for the internship program this year are equipped with diverse talents and will be working on innovative social enterprises for the next three months, according to the banking group.

On top of funding the internship, Hana will provide a program, which will make interns more competent and this should result in small companies being more willing to hire them. It also plans to play a further role in quality job creation by supporting enterprises in case they hire the interns as regular employees.

“We are aware that the job creation and corporate growth are the foundation to build up a happy society,” Hana Financial Group Chairman Ham Young-joo said at the launching ceremony held at the group headquarters in downtown Seoul, Wednesday.

“The group will make sure that the internship program will provide practical help for the participants,” he added.

“I appreciate Hana Financial Group’s efforts to tackle the youth job problem. The government will be with the internship participants so that they all can get the job they want,” Vice Minister of Employment and Labor Kwon Gi-seob said.

The current unemployment rate for young people stands at 7. 2 percent.

Hana is a member of the youth job promotion program jointly launched by the government and the Korea Enterprises Federation. It also launched the Hana Social Venture University project, supporting young entrepreneurs to create startups.
